Citation tracking
See who AI engines cite — then become the citation
Every generated answer is built from sources. This tracker records which domains get cited for your buyer prompts, which competitors keep appearing, and where the citations you should own are going instead.

What it measures
Cited domains, per answer
Each stored answer's citations are extracted with the cited domain and URL — so "who does Perplexity cite for this?" has a recorded, re-checkable answer.
Competitor flags
Citations carrying a competitor's name are flagged as such, turning the citation stream into a competitive map: who is winning which question, with what page.
Top sources across the workspace
The rollup surfaces the domains cited most across all your prompts — the trusted-source list for your market. Those are the places worth earning a mention on.
Sentiment and category
Each citation carries sentiment and one of eight evidence categories, so you can tell an authoritative recommendation from a passing reference.
How it works
- 1Answers in, citations outStored engine answers are decomposed into citation rows — domain, URL, brand/competitor flags, sentiment, category — one auditable row per citation.
- 2The source map emergesTop-cited domains per prompt and across the workspace show you the citation economy of your market: who the engines already trust.
- 3Turn the map into placementsThe Authority engine works that list — earned editorial mentions stay followed links, compensated placements are always labeled rel=sponsored (enforced in the database), and every placement is re-verified on a schedule.
- 4Close the loop with contentWhere citations go to thin or wrong pages, the planner plants the verified guide that deserves the citation — fact-dense, source-quoted, structured for extraction.
The honest part: Honest gate: the tracker reports citations recorded from stored answers — it never infers or estimates a citation. New workspaces see the machinery immediately and real citation rows as runs accumulate.
Asked plainly
How do I see who ChatGPT cites for a question?
Ask it and record the answer — then extract the cited sources. At scale that's a pipeline: store answers per prompt per engine, decompose them into citation rows, and roll up the domains. That pipeline is this feature; every number links back to the stored answer.
Why do citations matter more than rankings for AI answers?
Because generated answers are assembled from citations, and 2026 analyses put the overlap between Google's top links and AI-cited sources under 20 percent. The citation list — not the ranking — is the scoreboard for AI answers. Our GEO guides cover how each engine builds it.
Can I get cited more without buying links?
Yes — that's the only durable way. Fact-dense pages with verbatim primary-source citations are what engines extract; earned editorial mentions on already-cited domains compound it. Where compensation is involved anywhere in our network, the link is labeled rel=sponsored by database constraint — the Google-compliant lane.
